Responsive Website Design, SEO Strategy

December 15, 2014 By Smith House

“People love our landscape designs but they’ve never mentioned our website.”

Jeff BERGHOFF

THE STORY

For every year since Jeff Berghoff founded the company in 1998, the company has brought on new clients with no advertising and a modest website. Word of mouth spread quite quickly from neighbor to neighbor. When happy clients sing your praises, who has time to worry about the website?

THE SOLUTION

smithHOUSE presented to the team at Berghoff Design Group with a simple, elegant website defined largely by photography and storytelling. We wanted visitors of the website to press pause on their busy day just to enjoy the beauty of the gardens. With responsive, mobile first design, people can enjoy the website on their phone, tablet, or desktop computer.

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION

Under the hood, significant work was done to optimize the website for search engines. After all, the West’s #1 landscape design firm should sit comfortably on Page 1 of Google’s search results.

  • Within 2 months, the agency had gone from unranked on Google for top keyword searches to Page 5.
  • Within 6 months, the agency had moved to Page 3.
  • Within 12 months, the agency had moved to Page 1 on Google, including the Map Search.
  • Within 15 months, no other agency had placed higher on Google search results than Berghoff Design Group. They remain at the #3 spot, surpassed only by #2 Houzz and #1 Yelp.
